These courses will help you gain an understanding of child sexual abuse, its scope, and your role in prevention using the Eight Elements of Prevention.
Upon completion of these courses, you will be able to:

- Learn the steps you can take at your organization to prevent child sexual abuse
- Understand the Eight Elements of Prevention as a framework for child sexual abuse prevention

Taking Action for Children: Your Role in Preventing Child Sexual Abuse
Course 2 Safe Environments
In this course, you will learn how to ensure the physical environment in youth-serving organizations (YSOs) is safe and secure, and how to set up spaces that help prevent sexual abuse and keep children protected.
Learning Objectives:
- Define and assess safety standards in physical and virtual environments
- Identify key safety measures and procedures to reduce abuse risks
- Apply best practices for safe communication, including social media use
Course 3 Policies and Procedures
In this course, you will learn about practical approaches for developing or strengthening written policies and procedures that reflect your organization’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children in your care.
Learning Objectives:
- Reflect on or evaluate your current practices and identify gaps or areas for growth
- Create clear, effective policies aligned with best practices, and implement them through training, screening, and daily accountability
- Communicate your commitment to safety by engaging stakeholders, reviewing progress regularly, and building strong community partnerships
Course 4 Screening and Hiring
In this course, you will learn the key safety practices involved in recruiting, screening, and selecting staff and volunteers.

- Build a culture of safety through thoughtful hiring practices
- Implement effective and comprehensive screening processes
- Develop consistent, compliant policies that keep kids safe
Course 5 Code of Conduct
In this course, you will learn how to build a strong foundation for safety and accountability through your organization’s Code of Conduct.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop a clear, values-based Code of Conduct that sets expectations for safe behavior
- Implement the Code by integrating it into hiring, training, and daily operations
- Reinforce the Code through regular review, visibility, and accountability
Course 6 Sustainability
In this course, you will learn how to focus on what it takes to sustain your efforts over time to prevent abuse and neglect.
Learning Objectives:
- Use effective communication with staff, families, and the broader community regarding your child sexual abuse prevention efforts
- Incorporate stakeholder collaboration to partner with local organizations
- Offer ongoing collaboration and feedback from all staff and stakeholders on efficacy of your abuse prevention initiative
Course 7 Monitoring Behavior
In this course, you will learn how to effectively monitor behavior in youth-serving environments.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the three critical areas that are essential for building and maintaining a robust monitoring system in your organization
- Develop clear monitoring protocols
- Explore ways to promote a culture of safety
Course 8 Reporting
In this course, you will learn how to recognize, respond to, and report concerns to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse in children
- Respond appropriately and professionally to disclosures or allegations of abuse
- Report suspicions in accordance with legal and organizational requirements
Course 9 Training
In this course, you will learn how to implement a child sexual abuse prevention training program.

- Establish clear, minimum training standards for a prevention program so all staff understand expectations
- Identify and select quality training resources that align with the specific needs of your program
